JULY 11, 2008 SOME ASSEMBLY REQUIRED... A DIOGENESE 19348 STORY..
JULY 11, 2008 SOME ASSEMBLY REQUIRED... A DIOGENESE 19348 STORY..
The following is a story written by my online friend here at Multiply... Bryan or Diogenese 19348.. He has his own website where he publishes his Dio and Flagon Series of stories about a wizard and his friend a 30 ft. tall dragon...
FLAGONS WORKSHOP....
They really are very funny, with Dio's take on fairy tales and present day cartoon characters as the theme.
Dio also writes with an insight into modern day problems with his stories, as they are set into the past and future times with present day circumstances in the world as the theme for the stories. With his permission, I am posting his latest blog .. which isn't about Dio and Flagon .. but about the problems we are facing with the gas prices and the mismanagment of the companies in our country.
On with the story..
SOME ASSEMBLY REQUIRED
In the days of the inventor, gears would have whirred, belts clanked, and drills would have been drilling.
As it was though, there was just the low hum of the circuits, and the flashing of indicator lights, and a middle aged Henry Ford emerged from the vortex.
He gazed around himself, curiously, and nodded at the technicians. The executives were easy enough to pick out. A bad sign in itself.
"So, who are you, and where and why am I here?" Henry asked.
"Ah, yes. Why is the key question. You are in the future Mr. Ford. As to ‘where’, you are at Ford Headquarters. The ‘why’ is because we are in trouble, and need your help. You can call me John, or Mr Ford, although that would be confusing obviously. You are my great-great-great grandfather."
"What kind of trouble?" Henry asked, going to a window and looking at the parking lot. "Which of those cars are ours anyway?"
"All of them," John said. "They represent our entire product line."
"I notice different plates on them. Mercury, Lincoln and Ford. What is that about?"
"It is about choice sir, giving the consumer what they wanted." John said.
"I always thought the consumer wanted a car they could afford and repair. They don’t want that anymore?" Henry asked.
"Well, um," John stammered.
"So the problem is again?" Henry asked.
"We cannot manufacture a car at a profit, and remain competitive with other automotive companies." John explained.
"What, GM and Chrysler giving you a fit these days?" Henry asked.
"Japanese mostly", John admitted.
"Japanese? They have no oil, coal, or iron, they have to import all of it. Then they have to ship their car back across the ocean, and set up a dealership network in a foreign country, and you cannot compete with them on price?" Henry sputtered
"We have to pay the workers too much including health benefits and retirement." John protested.
"I paid my workers the highest wage in the industry at the time. Particularly those that worked hard, and had good morals. What changed there?" Henry asked.
"Unions," John said.
"What...did...you...say?" Henry said in a low, menacing voice.
"It wasn’t my fault." John quickly explained. "Besides, we are using robots to build the cars now."
"So how many cars does a robot buy?" asked Henry.
"Well, none of course", said John.
"From what I can see you have everything wrong. You are paying your workers not to work, and they resent you for it.
You are making an assembly line do what it does really badly.
You are producing cars and telling the public why they need them
. They are financing those cars right?" Henry asked.
"Yes sir," said John.
"Over what length of time?" Henry asked.
"Up to six years." John said.
"Six years?"
" Really?"
Do your cars actually last that long without breaking down?"
"We offer an extended warranty." John said weakly.
"So you really don’t know how much it costs in labor to make a car, you keep paying them long after they stop working."
You also do not know how much the car is going to cost you in repairs, so you have no idea what to charge and make a profit."
" The expenses come in after the product is made and sold." Henry observed.
"That’s one way of looking at it I guess." John said.
"We made the model T only in black, do you know why?" Henry asked.
"No idea," John said.
"Then you know nothing about manufacturing cars. Black paint dried faster, and didn’t hold up the assembly line. We didn’t branch out into other colors until we could handle them."
" B-24's" Henry added.
"What about them? That was a plane wasn’t it?" John asked.
"Your grasp of history is astounding in lack of depth. It took a month to put one in the air. We got it down to one per hour. Where did you think all those planes came from?"
John stared down at his shoes.
"Well, you don’t know assembly lines, your customers, your supply channel, or how to deal with your labor. Personally I would recommend layoffs..." Henry said.
"We were thinking that too!" one of the executes said. "The question is where to start."
"I would start with everybody in this room. Make them do honest work for a change. In the meantime, I think I will found a company." Henry said.
"To make cars?" asked John.
"No, to make horse drawn carriages. With the current gas prices, I think I could put you all out of business in five years." Henry concluded.

Picasa2 Free Download - Picasa2 - Google Photosoftware Picasa 2
http://www.picasa2.com/
This is simply a great photo editor I use a lot. It is a free download from Google and a few years ago this same softwear cost well over $100. It is also the doorway into the Picasa Web Albums. A lot like Photobucket.. but offers a lot more privacy settings and better quality in your photos viewing.
If you are looking for an editor with super light, color, and contrast editing this is it! It has a lot of other features such as converting a slideshow into html code for your webpage .. but they do not host it for you.. you can make a slideshow movie with mp3 music from your computer and upload it to the web album site and they will give you the html codes to post it on your blog.
You have to be careful as with any freedownloads.. they will try to hook the google toolbar, google earth.etc. onto the download and make Picasa your default photo editor.. you just have to be diligent and when they try to connect to the net block them.. or if they want to put the program as a startup item.. block it.. or it will start and slow your machine down by monitoring your picture downloads and what ever else they sneak into it.. but if your careful.. you can get only the editor and be glad you did.

JUNE 29, 2008 A PENNSYLVANIA YANKEE IN JUDGE PARKERS COURT
Well my friends... since my last blog .. I have been broke down on the side of the road, rescued by Homer, stood up Jerry, didn't get to dig in the dirt, besieged by storms of evil and violent intent
I'm worn out, how bout y'all?
It is the Lockie curse that has plagued me for most of my life... I have these nasty little crittersI call gremlins, who follow me around, to create chaos in an otherwise really pretty dull and predictable life. Just let me make a plan.. pick up a pencil and make a list of things to do today.. and they are all over me like white on rice!
But anyway.. Jerry was all for sightseeing for a while and so I took him to the famous Judge Issac C. Parkers courthouse and took a tour of the basement jail and then the jail they built at a later date.. and the actual courtroom itself.. all of the furnishing are reproductions I suppose.. but they sure looked the part to me if they were.
Then over to the gallows he had specially built.. they are built to hang 6 people at a time. hehehe.. He wasn't know as the Hanging Judge for nothing ya know! He was the last word in law on the border back when Oklahoma and Arkansas were filled with outlaws and hostile indians. He hired the men to find them and when they brought them in.. he listened to their pleas and the evidence and then .. strung 'em up if they were guilty.. He sentenced 136 men to be hung by the neck until dead and 2 women.. the women were never hung, because of a higher court appeal ruling.. but they did the crime and he sentenced them to the same punishment he would have a man.. He was the first supporter of equal rights for women I suppose.. he was a libber!!!
Before we went to the Park.. we stopped off at another great historical site here in my world.. Miss Laura's Social Club.. which in short was a bordello run by a lady by the name of Miss Laura.. it has since then been a restaurant and now a museum of wonderful things that were a part of life back then.. I made a slide show.. but I am also going to put them into an album uploaded here to Multiply if you would like to see them with captions as to what they are.
Jerry is back in Pennsylvania, I am still sitting waiting for the rain to quit for more than 24 hours so I can go and search for my diamond that is waiting for me.. and Iggwad is still just.. Iggwad!

IrfanView - Official Homepage - one of the most popular viewers worldwide
http://www.irfanview.com/
This is a download page for a free photo editing software. It is really exceptional in its quality and ease of use for a free download. To resize a photo is simple and easy.. and the end product is very good quality in a light weight custom sized photo.
The only problem I have with it is when you install it.. be careful at how much authority you give it over your photos. It can be invasive and very hard to change once you have given it the power.

Image Resizer Powertoy for Windows XP Free Download
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx
Microsoft has a lot of wonderful little gadgets for Windows XP, called Power Toys. The one I use constantly is their Image Resizer. It is a very small lightweight application that sits on your dropdown menu when you are choosing an image to upload to the net. It will take a huge photo and resize it to the same dimensions but with 1/3 of kbs used in the original.. with hardly any clarity loss.. It offers many preset sizes and then it of course it does have the custom size option also as well as one for mobile phone uploading..
This page also has many other powertoys for XP you might like as well.. to find the download link for this Image Resizer look to the right hand side of the page about half way down..
I recommend it as a useful tool that you will use everyday. I know I do..
Who would ever have thought it possible.. a product from Microsoft that actually is simple and makes working with photos on the internet computer so much more enjoyable!

MAY 26, 2008 VICTORY OVER QUICKTIME/KODAK IS MINE....YEEEEHHAAWWW BABBY!!
another Kodak camera that would adapt to my photo printer dock that will recharge my batteries as well as print my photos directly from the camera.
I was aware that the simple camera, would only produce video files in the .mov file type. This is a problem if you have a computer with Windows and not a Mac from Apple
I searched and browsed and checked and compared.. and settled on the Kodak Z712 IS would suit my needs wonderfully and probably forever.
I asked the clerk where I bought the camera if the two sets of rechargable batteries from my old camera would work in the new one as well.. also if the video file type of this new Kodak was capable of producing .mov and .avi as well..
He assured me that whatever I desired could be had with the new camera.. and that of course the batteries would interchange as Kodak only has one kind of rechageable battery in thier products..
( the camera cost me more than the previous dock and camera combined did.. it should be able to get Brad Pitt to star in my videos if I wanted it too!)
Imagine my shock.. and then irritation ... and then plain ole pissed off to the maximum .. when I discovered the guy lied to me.
I contacted Kodak about my problem and asked for a solution from them.. their return mail told me the solution was to purchase the Quicktime Pro from Apple
This they jubilantly explained to me.. would give me editing options and a player to play the videos with as well.
their camera to them and get my money refunded to me, explained in great detail that this was a complete and total misrepresentation of their product.. there is no information to be had on either the Kodak website, store, or help and support pages as to this even being something that is not given to the customer as a personal choice type option.
I have not heard from them yet..
I set about, researching the problem through the Microsoft help and solutions pages..
I find that Microsoft has allowed Apple
"BUT" Apple
THIS IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!
This website is FREE!! Yes you read that correctly.. FREE!
No gimmicks.. no trials.. nothing underhanded.. trust me, I have checked this place with every tool at my disposal to
find a string or even a piece of lint .. it is not there.. this is legit.
Simple and easy to use .. they will host your file for 120 days if you request it..
so they might download it to their computer.
have a link to a splicer that another site is offering so you can restore it to one file.
I can now take my videos.. edit them right there in their editor.. and then convert them from .mov to .wma, any of the alphabet is supported it would seem.. even .flp and shockwave file types
from obsure places can be converted.. and it is very fast ..
