A Leafs Life
I was born in the springtime
no bigger than a grub
They called me Bud
I grew so fast in the summer time
they said "No Way He Is Just A Baby!"
So they called me Shady
In autumn I really did shine
as is all leaves duty
They changed my name to Beauty
In the winter time I left home
on the winds that blew
I did roam
for some animal I became an appetizer
Now my name is simply.. fertilizer

OCTOBER 31, 2008
  NEW GROUP!
  LOCKERRIDGES ENTRY
THE UNITED FRIENDS CHALLENGE WRITING GROUP

I have joined a new group! The United Friends Challenge, is a group that challenges each other with topics for new stories, and poems that are original and from the members own experiences in life. I am going to try my hand at a few and see how it goes.. it may be I am not cut out to write fictional stories.. my blogs consist of me sitting and talking to my friends, as though they are in my kitchen having a cup of coffee with me. So let's see how it goes. If you guys don't show up on challenge day.. I will get the hint! I don't think my ego will mind too much, it has always had a pretty tough skin on it!

{Rosiebeck's Challenge....... Write in a poem in a "comedic or humorous" way...how your parents met.. Make a their meeting a comedy or something funny or lively.. This would really be a challenge..if its too hard to do it...make an essay instead of a poem..}

 Billy Joe and Reba Lou

Billy Joe and Reba Lou
 my mom and pop
 met on a mountaintop
when they were but little tots

 There never was a time
when knowing one another was not
 seems they grew up knowing
 together they would be always
 as they took life's shots

 The families lived close together
as humans do seem to gather
so they grew from child to adult
he learning to plant a crop
she on the business end of a mop

 Billy Joe and Reba Lou
 my mom and pop
 married and settled down
 on the same mountaintop
 he leaving the crop
 weekly paychecks he sought
needed to buy her a new mop

 Life for them
 was happy and content
ah! could this get any better?
 yes it could they thought
on the day I was born
 they shouted I was heavensent

 Love and laughter
 tears and sorrow
 both sickness and health
 filled their days
and love deepened in every way

 Billy Joe and Reba Lou
my mom and pop
 were always together
 never apart
so it must have been
in heaven where they got their start

A BREAK FROM BEING A GROWNUP...
 LITTLE PEOPLE.. BIG TALENT
This little darlin' makes lockie cry she is so pure in her smile and her song
This little guy deserves a break I think.. I am not a real fan of this type song.. but he has really put all he is into it.
These two have been groomed for competition for a long time! They are stage people from the word go! Watch the end of it when they are talking to the Simon and the little girl is telling him off kind of.. hilarious!
This little darlin' is my favorite of them all.. she is so cute she makes me cry as does the first little girl.. but when she tells him she is an American..I blubber all over myself!
love the little ones.. love the little ones.. they make all the grownup troubles worth it..

OCTOBER 29, 2008 THE INSANITY OF REMODELING..A HOUSE AND A BRAIN

OCTOBER 30, 2008
THE INSANITY OF REMODELING
A HOUSE AND A BRAIN

Photobucket

IT'S ROTTEN! IT'S ROTTEN!
This seems to be the battlecry of the carpenter who is remodeling my house. Have mercy on a woman with that sound in her ears every 10 minutes it seems like!

If you have been with me a while you know that I have yet to move into my Moms house, even though she has been gone for three years this Nov. 14. For some reason I kept waiting for her to come home.. but I suppose everyone,( even insane people like me) realize after a while that some wishes just don't come true. No matter how hard you hope and pray for it.. God has but one answer sometimes.. and that answer is NO.
So facing another winter in this cold mobile home, which actually the mobile home has twice the room in it as the house does.. but it is not even close to being as insulated and yes indeed.. WARM! So I have tried on several occasions to hire somebody to do some work for me. I need to have the bathroom redone for certain and when we had all those storms this spring.. the wind knocked loose some of the metal stuff over the trim board and I saw the evilness called dry rot plainly.
You would think in todays economy with so many people out of work and on unemployment, someone would have jumped at the idea of getting some money in their pocket... ho ho.. no so!
I must of called 10 different people locally and no one even showed up to look, let alone give me a bid! Until.. my neighbor really got hit hard with the last big one that went through and had to have their siding replaced on their house.. they too tried to find someone to do the work locally.. but to no avail. Then the lady neighbor got a phone call from her nephew in Kansas who is a carpenter.. ah ha!.. he was tickled to death to get the work.. so I contacted them and he is now at my house.. groan!

So far he has had to replace most of the trim board, and the people who put the steel siding on the house .. put this kind of pressed cardboard stuff under the eves of the house and it was so far gone.. it actually just kind of crumbled when he pulled the plastic covering off of it! Nasty now! But he contacted the people who sell the siding stuff and asked what was up with all of it and they said it was just a way that was used in the early times when everyone was just learning about steel siding.. was supposed to add insulating value to the house..
So now I have new stuff with little vent holes in it.. hopefully it won't impair the insulating value I had on the house before.. it is a bit too tight though.. nothing escapes.. so I am having him install a ventilation fan in the hallway to move the stale air out and get some flow to it.. Mom just breathed the same air over and over again I guess...

Tomorrow I am off to see about cabinets for the kitchen and a new vanity and light fixture for the bathroom.. new carpet for the bedrooms and new lights for the living room and kitchen.. whew! I have so much stuff to have to deal with as far as going through all the things in the house. That seems to be my undoing most of the time. I have tried so many times to start this and get moved in.. sigh..
I suppose I should just not be so strange about it all.. but sure feels like I am doing something wrong when I throw out boxes and boxes of old cancel checks and warranties on hot water heaters from 1979.  She saved everything .. in organized neat bundles.. in plastic containers.. stacks and stacks of the stuff.

Going to set a big brush fire next time it is a misty rainy day.. Gary finally got the trees that had been blown down on the holding pen fence cut down and the brush piled up.. need to remember to put my cast iron cookware in there when he gets it going good.. burns all the built up yuck and they are like brand new again. But we found out the roof of the barn had been rotten in one spot and the tree limbs have knocked a hole in it we didn't see until now.. boy.. it is sure getting deep around my knees right about now! The entire barn is in bad shape and it need to be pulled down and a new building of some sort put up.. probably another barn with a add on to keep the tractor and the lawnmowers and stuff in.. that can wait though.. surely something can wait a little bit. Now I got the ball rolling.. it wants to bounce around too much for me to not get called for a walk.... or a technical foul .. mouth!

The wood stove Mom used in the winter is still in wonderful shape and will be so much warmer this winter than this fireplace in the trailer. But I am going to miss the open flame to watch... that is really a nice thing when it is cold outside and windy.. to be warm and have a nice fire to watch.. but then when you have to go out in a rainstorm or snow storm to gather in wood.. or heaven forbid you run out of wood and have to go cut it in a snowstorm.. or worse yet.. buy a rick.. well.. it kind of evens out I guess.. last year to heat this 16x80 mobile home.. I only used 200 gallons of butane.. I also cook with butane too.. and that my friends is simply awesome!
I will post some pictures pretty soon.. maybe.. hehehe.. progress reports as the home and brain remodeling continues..

OCTOBER 26, 2008 MEET MY FRIEND CRYSTAL... SOMEONE TRULY SPECIAL...

 OCTOBER 26, 2008
 MEET MY FRIEND CRYSTAL
 SOMEONE TRULY SPECIAL

Photobucket

I have met a lot of people who are special, here on the internet. The first of course being Dani.. my best friend and partner in web crime.

The very first person who I met here was a man from India named Pradeep, who goes by the Id of PD. I have lost touch with him since the move from 360 to Multiply, and that is something I regret greatly.. but all of our lives change on a daily basis and from those pointers in our lives, we move along.
This blog is about Crystal .. she is alterbe4ego here on Multiply and she is simply a wonder gal!
She has had some health problems that affected her mental state, because of an imbalance of chemicals in her body. Most people never try to really overcome these kinds of problems, but this lady fought the long fight to find the medicines that would help her .... I am here to tell you she is just fine in all respects except one.. she does not think she is! lol..

She strives to understand and live her life according to the Lord God whom she loves with her whole flesh and bone being and her soul.
I like her very much. I had the opportunity to visit her in person, this summer, when I went on vacation. She lives about 3 hours from me in Arkansas. I met her children and husband.. her dog and her cats.. and felt wonderfully at home and welcome.

The following letter I have posted with her, generous permission is one she wrote to her, as yet unborn, baby daughter. At the time she wrote this she was in the high points of her illness, that caused her to be delusional in her sense of reality.
This is a tribute to the mother that Crystal is and the person she is inside.
Her beauty is within and without and I admire her strength and courage a great deal. Her mind playing tricks made her fear she would lose her life before she could raise her child, so she wrote this letter to her. The plan was   to give it on her graduation day.. but for some reason they opened it today.. and I was blessed because she posted it.

The love of a mother for her unborn child..

A LETTER TO ALEXANDRIA

The following is the letter I wrote while sitting alone, scared, pregnant, delusional and wanting to give the best possible advice that could be given to a child should I not have the chance to teach it myself.......
Little one,
You've been with me a little more than three months now.  I don't know where we're going from here.
I want you to know I love you already and I'm scared as hell.  I love your daddy but we aren't married.  In fact I don't think I would have let this happen (being pregnant) if he hadn't sounded like that's what he wanted and I wasn't already thirty.
I don't know what the world will hold for you-I only know that it hasn't been the most pleasant place to me.  I'm hoping you will have things so much easier than I did without being spoiled.
If something happens where I forget, or I'm not able to tell you, the main thing I want you to know about me is that I loved the Good Lord and I want you to learn about him strictly from the bible before you study any religion.
I also want you to take good care of yourself and never let anyone teach you about "can't".  And if you find yourself wanting something really bad, at least try once.  Never get old saying, "I wish".  Some opportunities only happen once, "What if I had...." is the saddest 20/20 statement you can ever ponder upon because even in failure you learn to succeed.
I am hoping I can inspire love, kindness, thoughtfulness, and tolerance in you.  But I also hope to teach you that life isn't fair without letting you resent it.  I've spent a lot of useful time worrying about how "life isn't fair".  I hope to teach you not to accept that as an excuse to fail like I have.
Always be honest with yourself and others.  If you lie to yourself in one area, you cheat yourself in another.  If you lie to others you betray the most valuable thing they have to give.....their trust.
Your friends deserve the truth because you love them and your enemies aren't worth degrading your integrity with a lie.  Sometimes, "None of your business" is the best answer.
Try not to judge people by appearances.  Quite often a perfect appearance is a beautiful mask for an ugly pride-so keep remembering who you really are so you don't have false pride.  If you are inclined to criticize try to remember if you are possibly guilty of almost the same thing.
Once a day find something good in an impossible person.  You'd be surprised how wonderfully something like that can affect the meanest people.
Sometimes people are nasty because that's all they know-try to SHOW them that there is a better way.
Above all else, if you see me violating this stuff myself, remind me of what I said and rise above my shortcomings.
I don't know what I could add to this.
If everything goes normal and smooth, I'll be giving this to you (hopefully) on your graduation day.
My granny told me once, "If it feels right in your heart then do it.  But if it don't feel right in your heart then you know it's wrong........If you always do what you feel is right in your heart, then you'll have a big stick to fight the world with and you can tell everybody your granny gave you that big stick."
Well, darlin', granny gave it to me, now I leave it to you to give to your children too-it's the family heirloom and the only one worth much.
I love you.

The Energizer Bunny® first went airborne in September, 1994, leading a hare-and-hounds race at the 21st annual Great Forest Park Balloon Race in St. Louis. She has been breezing across the country ever since. She has floated over cities from Upstate New York, to the southern tip of California.

( She sure gets around... doesn't she?)

That’s One Big Bunny!

The Energizer Bunny® Hot Hare Balloon is the world’s biggest hot air balloon.
At 166 feet tall, (the height of a six-story building and 15-feet taller than the Statue of Liberty) The Energizer Bunny® Hot Hare Balloon’s feet are a gigantic size 98, which always makes for interesting landings.

(I gripe cause they don't make grownup people shoes for a size 5 foot... now this size 98 could prove to be a might embarrassing.. whoa!)

OCTOBER 12, 2008 AIGs Crucial Role in The Banking Collapse ..WHAT HAPPENED AND WHY.

AIGs Crucial Role in The
Banking Collapse

Oct 09, 2008
Original Article
Written By:
Porter Stansberry

Preamble Opinion Summary written by blog owner:
Lockerridge

This is a long article... but it is an important one for us all. This guy tells it like no one else has yet. I understand this fella. Some parts of this article were edited out by me.. they were basically Mr. Stansberry giving financial advice on how to invest your money in todays stock market. After all he makes his living from investing peoples money for them.
So in an effort to keep to the blog original topic, the AIG involvement and why it was and is such a major player in the financial crisis facing our country as well as the rest of the world,  I omitted them.
But if you wish to read what he advises .. this is the link to the article on the website

To put it in a nutshell. AIG took advantage of some loopholes in the laws governing the banks that are doing business worldwide. They committed legal fraud. They lied. They made millions upon millions of dollars, appear in the market place, from thin air. They were enabled legally to take on the major player  part in for over a decade.
I color coded all of the things which I think are particularly disgusting..
I think I finally understand what happened and why it happened. It was bound to fold up like a house of cards eventually. In my mind what this company and its partners did is illegal and that entire management and all those partners who were making billions from it, should be held criminally responsible for their actions. But then it would open up the door to the politicians who made their own BIG BUCKS from it!  Can't let that happen can they?
How, in our age of high tech communications, did not some news program, like 60 Minutes investigate this scam that has landed us into this mess? I mean I know what Brittany and Paris like to eat for breakfast, and if they prefer White Cloud or Charmin, why not something less important like my entire financial future!
End of Lockerridge Opinion Summary

Editing omissions of financial advice
By Lockerridge

Something very strange is happening in the financial markets. And I can show you what it is and what it means...
If September didn't give you enough to worry about, consider what will happen to real estate prices as unemployment grows steadily over the next several months. As bad as things are now, they'll get much worse.
They'll get worse for the obvious reason: because more people will default on their mortgages. But they'll also remain depressed for far longer than anyone expects, for a reason most people will never understand. What follows is one of the real secrets to September's stock market collapse. Once you understand what really happened last month, the events to come will be much clearer to you...
Every great bull market has similar characteristics. The speculation must – at the beginning – start with a reasonably good idea. Using long-term mortgages to pay for homes is a good idea, with a few important caveats.
Some of these limitations are obvious to any intelligent observer... like the need for a substantial down-payment, the verification of income, an independent appraisal, etc. But human nature dictates that, given enough time and the right incentives, any endeavour will be corrupted. This is one of the two critical elements of a bubble. What was once a good idea becomes a farce. You already know all the stories of how this happened in the housing market, where loans were eventually given without fixed rates, without income verification, without down-payments, and without legitimate appraisals.
As bad as these practices were, they would not have created a global financial panic without the second, more critical element. For things to get really out of control, the farce must evolve further... into fraud.
And this is where AIG comes into the story.
Around the world, banks must comply with what are known as Basel II regulations. These regulations determine how much capital a bank must maintain in reserve. The rules are based on the quality of the bank's loan book. The riskier the loans a bank owns, the more capital it must keep in reserve. Bank managers naturally seek to employ as much leverage as they can, especially when interest rates are low, to maximise profits. AIG appeared to offer banks a way to get around the Basel rules, via unregulated insurance contracts, known as credit default swaps.
Here's how it worked:
Say you're a major European bank... You have a surplus of deposits, because in Europe people actually still bother to save money. You're looking for something to maximise the spread between what you must pay for deposits and what you're able to earn lending. You want it to be safe and reliable, but also pay the highest possible annual interest. You know you could buy a portfolio of high-yielding sub prime mortgages. But doing so will limit the amount of leverage you can employ, which will limit returns.
So rather than rule out having any high-yielding securities in your portfolio, you simply call up the friendly AIG broker you met at a conference in London last year.
"What would it cost me to insure this sub prime security?" you inquire. The broker, who is selling a five-year policy (but who will be paid a bonus annually), says, "Not too much." After all, the historical loss rates on American mortgages is close to zilch.
Using incredibly sophisticated computer models, he agrees to guarantee the sub prime security you're buying against default for five years for say, 2% of face value.
Although AIG's credit default swaps were really insurance contracts, they weren't regulated. That meant AIG didn't have to put up any capital as collateral on its swaps, as long as it maintained a triple-A credit rating. There was no real capital cost to selling these swaps; there was no limit. And thanks to what's called 'mark-to-market'
accounting, AIG could book the profit from a five-year credit default swap as soon as the contract was sold, based on the expected default rate.

Whatever the computer said AIG was likely to make on the deal, the accountants would write down as actual profit. The broker who sold the swap would be paid a bonus at the end of the first year – long before the actual profit on the contract was made.
With this structure in place, the European bank was able to assure its regulators it was holding only triple-A credits, instead of a bunch of sub prime 'toxic waste.' The bank could leverage itself to the full extent allowable under Basel II. AIG could book hundreds of millions in 'profit' each year, without having to pony up billions in collateral.
It was a fraud. AIG never [had] any capital to back up the insurance it sold. And the profits it booked never materialised. The default rate on mortgage securities underwritten in 2005, 2006, and 2007 turned out to be multiples higher than expected. And they continue to increase. In some cases, the securities the banks claimed were triple A have ended up being worth less than $0.15 on the dollar.
Even so, it all worked for years. Banks leveraged deposits to the hilt. Wall Street packaged and sold dumb mortgages as securities. And AIG sold credit default swaps without bothering to collateralise the risk. An enormous amount of capital was created out of thin air and tossed into global real estate markets.
On September 15, all of the major credit-rating agencies downgraded AIG – the world's largest insurance company. At issue were the soaring losses in its credit default swaps. The first big write-off came in the fourth quarter of 2007, when AIG reported an $11 billion charge. It was able to raise capital once, to repair the damage. But the losses kept growing. The moment the downgrade came, AIG was forced to come up with tens of billions of additional collateral, immediately. This was on top of the billions it owed to its trading partners. It didn't have the money. The world's largest insurance company was bankrupt.
The dominoes fell over immediately. Lehman Brothers failed on the same day. Merrill was sold to Bank of America. The Fed stepped in and agreed to lend AIG $85 billion to facilitate an orderly sell off of its assets in exchange for essentially all the company's equity.
Most people never understood how AIG was the linchpin to the entire system. And there's one more secret yet to come out...
AIG's largest trading partner wasn't a nameless European bank. It was Goldman Sachs.
I'd wondered for years how Goldman avoided the kind of huge mortgage-related write downs that plagued all the other investment banks. And now we know: Goldman hedged its exposure via credit default swaps with AIG. Sources inside Goldman say the company's exposure to AIG exceeded $20 billion, meaning the moment AIG was downgraded, Goldman had to begin marking down the value of its assets. And the moment AIG went bankrupt, Goldman lost $20 billion. Goldman immediately sought out Warren Buffett to raise $5 billion of additional capital, which also helped it raise another $5 billion via a public offering.
The collapse of the credit default swap market also meant the investment banks – all of them – had no way to borrow money, because no one would insure their obligations.
To fund their daily operations, they've become totally reliant on the Federal Reserve, which has allowed them to formally become commercial banks. To date, banks, insurance firms, and investment banks have borrowed $348 billion from the Federal Reserve – nearly all of this lending took place following AIG's failure. Things are so bad at the investment banks, the Fed had to change the rules to allow Merrill, Morgan Stanley and Goldman the ability to use equities as collateral for these loans, an unprecedented step.
The mainstream press hasn't reported this either: A provision in the $700 billion bailout bill permits the Fed to pay interest on the collateral it's holding, which is simply a way to funnel taxpayer dollars directly into the investment banks.
Why do you need to know all of these details? First, you must understand that without the government's actions, the collapse of AIG could have caused every major bank in the world to fail.
Second, without the credit default swap market, there's no way banks can report the true state of their assets – they'd all be in default of Basel II. That's why the government will push through a measure that requires the suspension of mark-to-market accounting. Essentially, banks will be allowed to pretend they have far higher-quality loans than they actually do. AIG can't cover for them anymore.
And third, and most importantly, without the huge fraud perpetrated by AIG, the mortgage bubble could have never grown as large as it did. Yes, other factors contributed, like the role of Fannie and Freddie in particular. But the key to enabling the huge global growth in credit during the last decade can be tied directly to AIG's sale of credit default swaps without collateral. That was the barn door. And it was left open for nearly a decade.
There's no way to replace this massive credit-building machine, which makes me very skeptical of the government's bailout plan. Quite simply, we can't replace the credit that existed in the world before September 15 because it didn't deserve to be there in the first place. While the government can, and certainly will, paper over the gaping holes left by this enormous credit collapse, it can't actually replace the trust and credit that existed... because it was a fraud.
And that leads me to believe the coming economic contraction will be longer and deeper than most people understand.
