Good Morning everyone. I hope you all had a good weekend and this Monday finds you all doing well.
Tillman did not have the best of nights last night. They discovered early this morning that Tillman's right lung has collapsed and that there is "free air" in his chest cavity, on the right side. They believe this happened when they removed his last chest tube yesterday. So to correct this they have increased his oxygen to 100% and increased his CPT (respiratory therapy). These two things are to help get rid of the "free air" and also open up his right lung. If this does not work they will try to pull the "free air" out with a needle, or re-insert a chest tube.
He is also still fighting his infection, but is showing slight improvement. The antibiotics, however, has caused him to have diarreha. The diarreha can cause the skin on his bottom to breakdown. So we hope to avoid that.
He continues to rest well. He even got to hang out in the chair with dad for a couple hours yesterday. This was the first time we have held him since before his transplant on Feb 4. So, when you get a chance please pray that Tillman gets past these hurdles and comes out on the other side closer than ever to making it home happy and healthy. Thank you so much in advance for those prayers. You all have been amazing in your prayers for our little guy. We are always grateful for this. We will let you know more later.... So Tuesday morning finds our little Tiger feeling slightly better. He is no longer running any fevers. He has been awake a little more during the night and morning than he has been the two previous days. We will continue to treat with antibiotics along with a couple other tweaks to his treament.
The "free air" and the right lung appear to still be the same as yesterday. The doctors will decide tooday to draw that air out with a needle or continue to try and allow Tillman's body to absorb it. I POSTED THE BLOG, ASKING FOR PRAYER THE MORNING OF MARCH 28, 2007 |

Good Wednesday to you all.
Tillman had a remarkable afternoon and night. He seemed to feel beter as the day and night wore on. The docotors say that the last x-ray showed that the "free air" in his chest is no longer there. No needle and no chest tube needed! 173 March 29, 2007 at 09:30 PM EDT | So Thursday night finds Tillman in good spirits and finishing up a 15 hour Cpap trial!!! He has had a good day. He has played and napped and played and played. He seems to be getting stronger. He is lifitng his head off the bed and reaching out for anything you put in front of him. He was even giving his Mom and his RT high fives todays. | 174 March 30, 2007 at 04:51 PM EDT He's been playing most of the day. Hitting his tiger mobile and grabbing his other toys. Smiling from ear to ear and making mom and dad laugh. You just can't have it any better than that on a Friday!!! Oh...almost forgot....we gave him a lollipop to taste today. YUMMY!!! He really loved that!!! 175 March 31, 2007 at 12:55 PM EDT | Its Saturday!!! Tillman has been extubated since about 10am this morning! He is doing great! Currently he is smiling and tasting a lollipop with his Mommy. All of that is making his Mommy smile and laugh.
| 176 April 01, 2007 at 03:59 PM EDT | Hello on Sunday. Its April 1st. 24 days until Tillman's first b-day! But who's counting?(except for dad, mom, grandmas, grandpas, friends, etc.) ;)
Tillman continued his wonderful Saturday well into Saturday night. Well after 11pm last night he was steady kicking and smiling and swatting at one of his toys. Just a ball of fun and energy. Today he has played and read books with his Grandma, in between respiratory treatments and naps.
| 177 April 02, 2007 at 01:22 PM EDT | Good Monday! Tillman continues to rock right along on the nasal Cpap. | P.S. I have a BIG PRAISE. Grandpa Chesney's doctor called him today to say that the results of his last scan showed that his liver tumor has gone down from a measurement of 10 to a 5.2. I do not know the unit of measure, but an almost 50% decrease is incredible! Thank you all for the prayers. I was telling a close friend last night when he asked about my Dad. I told him God is taking care of my son, I trust he will take care of my Dad as well. 178 April 03, 2007 at 05:09 PM EDT | Well we're having a good day....AGAIN! Nothing medically has really changed in the last few days. The transition from morphine to methadone will be complete tomorrow. He seems to be handling this very well. Nothing has really changed with his nasal cpap either. And that's just fine too.
On a developmental note: Tillman continues to lift his head off the mattress and tries to look over the opposite shoulder. So this morning with the help of OT, we similated some rolling with him. Tillman LOVED this. He continues to reach and grab his toys. | 179 April 07, 2007 at 04:22 PM EDT | Hello on Saturday! We apologize for not updating since Tuesday. The closer to "healthy baby" Tillman gets, the busier he keeps Mom and Dad. Please forgive us. We will do better this coming week. So here's what's up with Tillman.....
He has been doing great!!!!
Medically he has come off of his morphine. So he no longer gets any constant IV meds. They have reduced support of his nasal Cpap 3 days in a row and he has handled it fine.
Developmentally...
We are sitting him up more to help him develop his trunk and head control. He is reaching, grabbing and swatting at anything you put in front of him.
We are also working on his ability to suck. Plus associating sucking with getting fed. He is taking to this well.
He is also feeling hungry! He tends to show signs of hunger right before his next feeding is due to begin and settles down right after feeding starts. He is also making more noise. His cries are louder. He is also making noise when he tries to laugh, etc. AND..after much pratice Tillman has finally learned addition, subtraction and multiplication. We now move on to long division. :) I hope everyone has a wonderful easter. This easter will have a special meaning for us this year. We are thankful for the gift of salvation. We have also been given the gitft of our son's life. Along with much praise, we ask for blessing on the donor family for that gift. Thank you all so much for the prayers and support Jason, Jody and Tillman | |
