VICTORY OVER QUICKTIME/KODAK IS MINE....

YEEEEHHAAWWW BABBY!!

The time had come in the life and times of lockerridge, to replace a Kodak camera that was part of a camera/photo printer dock package, that was ruined during a run for shelter from the seige of tornado,hail, and wind damage that has taken over Arkansas this spring of 2008.

I opted to replace it with
another Kodak camera that would adapt to my photo printer dock that will recharge my batteries as well as print my photos directly from the camera.
I was aware that the simple camera, would only produce video files in the .mov file type. This is a problem if you have a computer with Windows and not a Mac from Apple, as this video file type will only be played on a Quicktime media player from Apple.

Determined to not buy a camera with only that one file type produced.. I proceeded with the usual procedure.
I searched and browsed and checked and compared.. and settled on the Kodak Z712 IS would suit my needs wonderfully and probably forever.
I asked the clerk where I bought the camera if the two sets of rechargable batteries from my old camera would work in the new one as well.. also if the video file type of this new Kodak was capable of producing .mov and .avi as well..
He assured me that whatever I desired could be had with the new camera.. and that of course the batteries would interchange as Kodak only has one kind of rechageable battery in thier products..

( the camera cost me more than the previous dock and camera combined did.. it should be able to get Brad Pitt to star in my videos if I wanted it too!)

Imagine my shock.. and then irritation ... and then plain ole pissed off to the maximum .. when I discovered the guy lied to me.

Imagine that!

Now picture this in your mind folks.. this new camera will connect to my printer dock directly, just as the old one did.. but the batteries are not rechargable that comes with the camera.. and .. hang onto your hat here.. they cost 20 dollars apiece to replace them!

The rechargable ones that are made specifically for this camera cost 35 dollars.. if you can find them in a store.. thank goodness for Best Buy in Fayetteville, Arkansas.. college town.. they have the newest of anything you find on the net.. in stock. This part of the purchase fiasco fixed.. I settled into a somewhat calmer state of mind.. but then..

It would not produce any type of video file except .mov.

Little bubbles started popping in my brain.. yep.. brain boil..

I contacted Kodak about my problem and asked for a solution from them.. their return mail told me the solution was to purchase the Quicktime Pro from Apple .. of course.
This they jubilantly explained to me.. would give me editing options and a player to play the videos with as well.

I replied asking for the forms to fill out and address to return
their camera to them and get my money refunded to me, explained in great detail that this was a complete and total misrepresentation of their product.. there is no information to be had on either the Kodak website, store, or help and support pages as to this even being something that is not given to the customer as a personal choice type option.

I have not heard from them yet..

BIG SURPRISE HUH?

Later after the blood vein in my temple was restored to normal proportions..
I set about, researching the problem through the Microsoft help and solutions pages..
I find that Microsoft has allowed Apple to develope and use freely a converter which allows Quicktime to play and edit .avi and .wma Microsoft media player files.
"BUT" Apple does not return this favor to Microsoft.

WTF?????

THIS IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!

No gimmicks.. no trials.. nothing underhanded.. trust me, I have checked this place with every tool at my disposal to
find a string or even a piece of lint .. it is not there.. this is legit.
Simple and easy to use .. they will host your file for 120 days if you request it..

They offer a link you can send through email to friends and family
so they might download it to their computer.

They do not offer hotlinking to stream out the videos or images, but that is just a small thing compared to what they can do for us.

The list of audio files,video files, adobe reader files.. ringtones.. documents, etc.. they can convert to what ever you want it to be, is enormous!

They have a limit of 150 MB for a file size.. but even the largest document file can be split into 5 MB clips and then they
have a link to a splicer that another site is offering so you can restore it to one file.
I can now take my videos.. edit them right there in their editor.. and then convert them from .mov to .wma, any of the alphabet is supported it would seem.. even .flp and shockwave file types
from obsure places can be converted.. and it is very fast ..

ONCE AGAIN.. PERSISTANCE, DILIGENCE, A GOOD CASE OF BEING ROYALLY PISSED OFF, AND A DELL CAN MAKE EVEN A HILLBILLY FROM ARKANSAS... TRIUMPH OVER EVIL!
