LOCKERRIDGES ENTRY
THE UNITED FRIENDS CHALLENGE WRITING GROUP
I have joined a new group! The United Friends Challenge, is a group that challenges each other with topics for new stories, and poems that are original and from the members own experiences in life. I am going to try my hand at a few and see how it goes.. it may be I am not cut out to write fictional stories.. my blogs consist of me sitting and talking to my friends, as though they are in my kitchen having a cup of coffee with me. So let's see how it goes. If you guys don't show up on challenge day.. I will get the hint! I don't think my ego will mind too much, it has always had a pretty tough skin on it!

{Rosiebeck's Challenge....... Write in a poem in a "comedic or humorous" way...how your parents met.. Make a their meeting a comedy or something funny or lively.. This would really be a challenge..if its too hard to do it...make an essay instead of a poem..}
Billy Joe and Reba Lou
Billy Joe and Reba Lou
my mom and pop
met on a mountaintop
when they were but little tots
There never was a time
when knowing one another was not
seems they grew up knowing
together they would be always
as they took life's shots
The families lived close together
as humans do seem to gather
so they grew from child to adult
he learning to plant a crop
she on the business end of a mop
Billy Joe and Reba Lou
my mom and pop
married and settled down
on the same mountaintop
he leaving the crop
weekly paychecks he sought
needed to buy her a new mop
Life for them
was happy and content
ah! could this get any better?
yes it could they thought
on the day I was born
they shouted I was heavensent
Love and laughter
tears and sorrow
both sickness and health
filled their days
and love deepened in every way
Billy Joe and Reba Lou
my mom and pop
were always together
never apart
so it must have been
in heaven where they got their start

ReplyDeleteWell! For someone who was mighty nervous about their first entry, you've certainly done yourself proud. Well done, Terri!
ReplyDeletethank you my friend mikey.. you would tell it was great if it stunk up the place worse than pig puddle water.. cause you love me.. but I like that quality in my friends.. hehehehe
ReplyDeleteTo rjamp, unitedchallenge2008, and sumaxmail.. I am humbled by your praise.. I have been following the challenges for quite some time from my friend dios blogs and then Vinnies and now Jillermars and I just had to give it a try..
ReplyDeleteThank you once again for the praise of my little story of my momma and daddy.. they were pretty special folks .. no on had a better childhood than I did ..
Aaaw, Lockie! I love this, and I Iove You! This is Great!
ReplyDeletePrecious, memories are; of true love and the assurance we have of being born through this love. This stays with us, and sustains us when we falter. I believe a family, strong in love, is the best of all of Blessings..
You, I know, were raised with the same principles as I. This foundation holds up our world today. Where would we be without our Parents' Love?
Great Post!
God Bless! ((HUGS&LOVE)) to You.
Not nearly as equipped to know that no matter what.. there is always something to look forward to tomorrow .. it is in the back of m mind even in the times of feeling like the blessing of hope has left my life.. I hear momma say... it is just a test in this day.. tomorrow will bring the reward ... and if not the reward.. at least the God given ability to have time blur the pain of living..
ReplyDeletepretty smart lady my momma, yeah she sure is! As I age.. I see her in the mirror more and more.. I look just like her! I used to look like my Dad when I was younger.. but not now.. I am Momma made over again!

ReplyDeleteGood Job Lockie! Welcome to the group.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much Peggy.. coming from you that is a high compliment .. you are right up there on the top when it comes to making something that others will love to read in my opinion and you saying that makes me feel better that I might be at least a rung up from the bottom.. lol..
ReplyDeleteI love you Dani Hinsey! Why don't you try someday soon.. you don't have to write one every challenge that comes up. just when it is something close to you and you want to.. come on.. I will put a sleep spell on the kids and a sock in Toms mouth for you while you be creative..
ReplyDeleteThanks Vinnie.. I have thought about it a lot before and well this challenge... kind of made me do it!
ReplyDeleteI like it Terri.......I dont know how my parents met and I haven't written poetry since Alley was born. I used to write it all the time because I was a melancholy soul.......but since I have the kids.....I dont know........hugs!
ReplyDeleteBeatiful Terri.
ReplyDeleteVery thoughtful.
g
Thank you Crystal.. having babies around you .. especially your own babies has a way of bringing the melancholy out and the sheer happiness of watching them grow fills you up to the top doesn't it?.. my baby is turning 25 years old today.. gona go and take him and his girl out to eat this evening.. this time 25 years ago.. I wasn't allowed to have anything to drink let alone eat! lol.. doctors are wierd like that huh?
ReplyDeleteHere is a thought.. why don't you give the group a try.. it is not an official Multiply group and I like that.. it is a free and open type thing and you don't have to post for every challenge.. I would love to read some of your poetry or stories.. might help you get the juices flowing for the memoirs too!
THANKYOU VERY MUCH GILBERT!!! I am honored you think so.. your poetry is simply wonderful and so full of emotion and love of this and wisdom of the world... thankyou for the praise my friend!
ReplyDeleteIm in awe!! very well written and humorous...great read thanks for sharing!! :)
ReplyDeleteYou did well. I couldn't even make a start at this one.
ReplyDeleteOnce upon a time maybe. I will watch the group -or- your poat and see what happens.
ReplyDeleteI can not even get pictures posted for all those photo challenges.. an all I have to do there is point shoot, or shuffle through photos I already have. . . With this I gotz to think.. and that is painfull.
Yes I am a wet rag of sorts a soured smelly rag.. Hehehehe.
Thanks for thinking I can.
Your poem is fantastic.. you are simply the best! love ya
