NOVEMBER 8, 2008 SHAG CARPET IS GROOVY

NOVEMBER 8, 2008 SHAG CARPET
 IS GROOVY

I have been involved in a major undertaking lately. The remodeling of my mothers house so that I might take up residence there. sigh.. it is not very much fun.. nope not fun at all as a matter of fact.
I hired a very good contractor to do he work.. he took me shopping with him and helped me pick out the new kitchen cabinets and bathroom vanity. We spent a good three hours doing this and not once did he even give one of those testosterone invoked throat clearing things men do! That is impressive!
I on my own went shopping for light fixtures and floor tiles.. sigh.. I simply can't make up my mind about the wall paper though.. too many pretty styles and I have to think about the ones that are simply fashionable, but not time wearing type things. I do not plan on changing the walls every year, like I did when I was younger.. seems like a waste of time at this stage of my life.. lol.. now isn't that a funny thing to have happen to me. I am thinking like my mother!
I made a small slideshow to give you an idea of the things I am on the path of changing and some of the things that were simply rotten or broken and had to be done about.. so I will let the pictures tell the tale.. of the beginning.. and I will post one when it is finished and let you guys see the world I live in.. small and compact.. kind of like me!

As for shag carpet being groovy.. well.. let me just say.. I finally got the trigger assembly to my Bissell Carpet Cleaner tracked down and in my possession.. so when the cleaning begins.. I am afraid that the shag carpet will be full of groovies.. cause I think it is rotten too! sigh...

  1. Okay.. After reading the blog about shag carpet, I was totally expecting to see "Harvest Gold" or "Avacado Green" appliances. LOL Imagine my sadness when I didn't see them..

C'mon... Shag without those lovely colors from the 70's?

Well hon, it looks like you have you're work cut out for ya, but the thing to keep in mind, is how wonderful it will be very soon.

One suggestion, finish the bathroom exactly the way you want it first. That way, when the rest of the house gets on your nerves, and seems to be taking too long, you always have a place to walk into, close the door and look around with a huge grin. It will re-energize you.

  8. You do have your work cut out for you,, Lockie. Consider it a labor of love (smiles).
You wouldn't believe how many homes in this area - in some of the richest zip codes around - that haven't ever done any updating to their home. But then I think most of those folks planned on just living there til they died. Makes for great Estate Sales (smiles) but to buy them...OH BOY! And these homes are older.......all you see is 'money pit'.

It looks like a beautiful property!

I'd say skip wall paper all together! But then I've peeled and applied so much, I may have a jaded perspective. Or it could be I just don't like all those patterns all over the place. Invariably, you get tired of it....

    Love and Cheers to you!

  11. Well it is too late for that.. we have almost got the kitchen redone, all that it likes is a couple of coats of polyurethane on the cabinets. And of course.. the dreaded cleaning up of the mess made making it beautiful again.. lol..

  16. I have a really good contractor Crystal.. he is working hard and doing a really good job and he is not really charging me all that much I don't think.. it is kind of like this.. I can't do the work.. I don't know how.. so finding someone who is both knowledgeable.. and actually works is a big deal these days.. so I feel really lucky to have found him.

  17. I would do that RR but.. the entire house is paneled with this walnut paneling and either I sheetrock the entire house or I can spackle the paneling and hang wallpaper .. which I have used all my life.. It is easier to hang the paper than to paint.. less mess and it is always washable. I have an outlet in my area where it is relatively cheap to get wallpaper and change most anytime for less than a hundred dollars.. so that is the route to go I believe.. I am not going for patterns.. I am on the lookout for a nice beige with maybe a dark blue line in it.. that is hard to find believe it or not!

  19. Thanks for the encouragement Ted.. I really appreciate it! I have a hard time somedays.. I still have all of the personal things in boxes to go through.. but that can come some other day when I am moved in. kind of like doing the ceilings.. that can wait till springtime when I can open up the doors and windows and let the fresh air in without freezing my tookus off!

I simply don't want to fire up the fireplace or the heater.. so I have the oven running and it ain't much good! lol.. love ya sis .. lockie

  22. The house is beautiful!!! I do like the walnut color. Maybe because I wouldn't see the finger prints on it.
You are going to be sitting back in your chair one day all nice and cozy and warm and you will call it home.
