A STIR OF BIRTH AND MYRRH

100 Challenges! Wow! It is a year since this group was started and we have covered quite a few subjects here. However, I now want to steal an idea from Worth1000 and set a really sticky Challenge in celebration of reaching Challenge #100. Ready for a really challenging Challenge?
I want you to write a story using one syllable words
A STIR OF BIRTH AND MYRRH
What is the stir of birth and myrrh you ask me sir? Why it is the tale of a babe born in a barn!
It has been told as true. It has been told as myth. It has been told to all who are, he and she, in the land.
Yes, what I say is true!
It is told that a babe was long time past, born in a barn, in this tale of a birth and myrrh. He drew wise men from far out in the land, who gave him a gift or three.
Gold was one and myrrh one more.
It is told that when this chap was born.. God said," I bless you all, who are he and she in the land, for He will be a hand out of hell to you all!"
And so each year on the same day as this chap was born, all they who are he and she in the land, show great joy!
For this chap, who was born in a barn, is a Gift more than gold and myrrh!
That sir, is the tale of the big stir of birth and myrrh.
Yes! What I say is true!
For I have met this chap, have you?

This was very difficult for a wordy person like me.. I am not sure about a couple of the words.. and I really hope I have stayed in the guidelines.. it is not nearly as good as those I have already read.. but I have given it the lockerridge tryon.. maybe it will fit!

ReplyDeleteTerri ... this is excellent! My nitpick is an iffy one. Birth Day is a bit of a cheat (since this is usually one word - two syllables), so I would use Day of birth, or something along those lines to make this right.
ReplyDeleteokay.. I see what you mean.. I eliminated the birth day and just used gift.. says the same thing.. almost.. lol.. you mean that is all I didn't do right? whoa! by the way.. I have lost the link but I found this fantastic version of Robinson Crusoe all in one syllable words on the net.. somewhere.. I will look in my history and post the link.. it is fantastic!

ReplyDeleteI looked at the Lucy Aikin one syllable version on Gutenberg and it's an amazing feat of work. She got round Friday by saying she called him after the sixth day of the week (Friday in brackets/parentheses), but (real nitpicking here) still spells out and uses the name Xury for the slaveboy. Unless I am pronouncing that incorrectly ... either Ex-ur-ee or Zur-ee) you still go beyond one syllable.
ReplyDeleteWhen you consider she managed the entire rest of the book in one syllable words, you'll see that I nit-pick in jest, because I'm totally in awe of her achievement!

ReplyDeleteWe will be going to see The Glory of Christmas next week...a neat production of Jesus' Birth at the Crystal Cathedral where they got angels flying overhead and kids singing christmas song...I look foward to it every year

I'm gonna try this with the kids. Have them call out and write down the words. Then together make a story. hmmm. sounds fun.

ReplyDeleteI know I was blown away by the accomplishment! Here I was doing all these searches for a list of one syllable words, really making my gray matter smoke with effort.. and I ran onto this entire book .. I just started reading and the more I read.. I realized I could do this!

ReplyDeleteThat does sound so special iggy! I bet your kids love it! I suppose about the only thing I can think of that is a regular Christmas thing for me if I don't see it every year .. it just is not Christmas.. is the little Santa Claus riding down the hill covered in snow on the norelco shaver head ... lol.. it is a commercial they usually play during football games in December.. since I can remember anyway!
