Paint.NET is free image and photo editing software for computers that run Windows. It features an intuitive and innovative user interface with support for layers, unlimited undo, special effects, and a wide variety of useful and powerful tools. It started development as an undergraduate college senior design project mentored by Microsoft, and is currently being maintained by some of the alumni that originally worked on it. i use faststone image viewer...simple editing(nothing fancy) and image viewer.

ReplyDeleteThis program has a lot of online tutorials written by users of the product. You can learn so much from those people! It features a magic wand tool that allows you to remove back ground colors from jpgs.. and then you save them to the gif file format and you have a graphic with a transparent backing.
ReplyDeleteIt also has the layers capability.. which in photo shop or gimp is too difficult and technical for me to grasp.. with this program I can make layered projects with many different transparency and special effects with ease.. again the online tutorials are the greatest.. you can do anything you want to with this FREE program.. to beat any of the ones you pay for.. it is not a photo editor of great caliber, but it is a fantastic shop tool to make things that are unique and fun!
I've had Paint.net for quite some time. However, it's not one of my favorite programs, but I do use it on occasion. It's a good program to have. I use Faststone Image Viewer for resizing and cropping because it does it so perfectly. I use another program (Microsoft Digital Image Suite 2006 for Vista) for most of my designs.....which I haven't done in a long time. I really need to get back on track again.....aaaarrrrgh! Just can't seem to find the time these days.

Forgot to mention....thanks for the info you've given us. Now I know what the Magic Wand is used for. Going to try that feature soon. I'll check out Aviary. I'm always interested in photo editing programs.
