HAVE YOU EVER WANTED A CAR LIKE GEORGE JETSONS?
NOW YOU CAN!
TERRAFUGA "THE FLYING CAR"

My wonderful Aunt J has sent me another wonderful and informative email that I wanted to share with you all in a little bit more splashy way than just an email forward..

When I was a kid I loved the cartoon The Jetsons. Their car was the one thing I always wished for and would day dream about flying through the air instead of driving, but without all the airstrip landings and FCC rules.

They are well on their way to making my dreams come true!

The Terrafugia.. . "Terrafugia" is Latin for "escape from land," is the first "Transition" car to be considered for mass production of its kind.
I have copy pasted a bit of the information I found at the website.. and they have a video that I have posted also.. here is the link to the website to find all the detailed stuff I didn't put into this blog..
TERRAFUGIA

cause lots of us are not interested in the fine tuned details of the thing.. we just want to fly!

I think it is just simply..

"WAY COOL!"

News Releases June 3rd, 2009“FLYING CAR” SOARS THROUGH FLIGHT TESTINGTransition® Roadable Aircraft Moves on to Next Stage of DevelopmentWoburn, MA –
 June 3, 2009:

Terrafugia, Inc. has successfully completed the flight testing program designed for its Transition® Roadable Aircraft Proof of Concept.

Having been dubbed “The Flying Car”, the Transition® completed its historic first flight on March 5, 2009 with 27 additional flights completed over the next several weeks.

Terrafugia (ter-ra-FOO-gee-ah), based in Woburn, MA, is comprised of a team of award-winning engineers who have been advancing the state of personal aircraft since 2006.
Founded by five pilots who are graduates of MIT and supported by a world-class network of advisers and private investors, Terrafugia’s mission is the innovative expansion of personal mobility.
Categorized as a Light Sport Aircraft, the Transition® requires a Sport Pilot certificate to fly.

It is a two-seat aircraft designed to take off and land at local airports and drive on any road.

Transforming from plane to car takes the pilot less than 30 seconds.
The Transition® will cruise up to 450 miles at over 115 mph, will drive at highway speeds on the road, and fits in a standard household garage.
The vehicle has front wheel drive on the road and a propeller for flight.
Both modes are powered by unleaded automotive gasoline.

By giving pilots a convenient ground transportation option, the Transition® reduces the cost, inconvenience, and weather sensitivity of personal aviation.

It also increases safety by incorporating automotive crash structures and allowing pilots to drive under bad weather.
The successful completion of flight-testing with the Proof of Concept concludes the first stage of a four stage process to bring the Transition® into production. Work is underway on Stage 2, the Beta Prototype. First delivery is expected in 2011.
Refundable airframe reservations are now being accepted.

  2. Hello and welcome to my blog! Gosh I don't know.. you can click onto the link in the blog and get all the information available on it.. I don't really know what you mean by underpowered.. but anything that can fly in a straight line from point a to point b, even if it only went as fast as a regular car.. would still get there faster and save gas it seems to me. ... The only problem I can foresee is finding that landing strip that is as convenient as those interstate offramps..

  3. It is a weight vs power thing. I would love to have one as well. Just drive it to the airport..fly it where you need to go...drive to your final destination. And perhaps it is not underpowered....

  6. Oh I am sure if we start buying them they will come out with the Super Trooper model and then we will be asked for more tax money to train pilots and buy them.. which is kind of stupid of us if we give the tax money to them, isn't it? lol

  11. Awe yes... but does it fold to breifcase size?
Is very cool that it uses regular gas.. and the wings fold - only takes 30 sec.
is very cool! do you think it looks like a VW Bug? . . . Boy oh boy, that' one vehicle that has taken on different forms..

  12. Awesome!!! I loved The Jetsons too...in fact, it was the first show I ever saw in color.

Too bad it's not here in time for the "Clunkers for Cash" program! hahaha...

What's the estimated price tag on this baby?

So funny, my son didn't know the Jetsons but while driving on the highway one day when he was oh about 11, he said, someday these highways are just going to be markers for flying cars.

Sure would not miss all the pot-holes Michigan roads have and maybe we could spend money on something else then!

  15. If lots of people had one of these instead of cars on the road.. but were both being used by people.. can you imagine the spacejams and the people on the ground getting ticked off when some kid throws a milk shake out of the ones in the sky? It would be some kind of wonderful.. not!

  16. I like it, but I'd much rather stay on the ground. No flying for me. Sure would be less congestion on the roads and freeways. So, I'm all for it.

    Fantastic blog! Thank you!
