I Won Something!
Factor!
I subscribe to a site called 1stWebDesigner, that is a wonderful source of all kinds of goodies, if your into web page designing. Which I suppose I am, actually I am more into doing graphics for web pages, rather than doing all the technical stuff that is involved, but... nevertheless...
I Won!
Yeeeehawwww!
They were giving away two tutorial books on the knowledge of using PHP type coding for web page design for absolute beginners. I thought I fit into that category with ease, so I left the required comment on their page, and they picked me!
It was supposed to be chosen randomly, among those who submitted a comment, but they decided to give it to the two people who left the most well thought out and useful comments to the owners of the website..
and yeah..
I was one of them!
Hard to believe I won a prize for criticizing something....
But then again we are dealing with me here, and I suppose that it is not all that difficult to believe.. I always do things bass ackwards.
I still WON!
I downloaded the PDF, and when I got to looking into all I would have to do to just get my computer capable of using the code.. I would have to download Apache something or another and that is a file of around 6 GB's.!
I have not even gotten the real hang of CSS yet, and they already have CSS2 and CSS3 out there for me to get up to speed on.. so if anyone would like to use this copy of PHP for Absolute Beginners.. give me the word and I will give you the password, and the url to get into the book. I am a sharer.. but just remember ..
it is me that.....
WON!The website is located...
HERE
And the article that has the contest and my comment on it is located...
HERE
The fellas that are running the site make me feel so old, and so ignorant when it comes to all the things they know, that I am struggling to learn. I will never be as knowledgeable or retain the knowledge that they will be able to.. because.. I have at least 30 years of other stuff floating around in my memory than they do.
Meet the fellas....

Lockie Won!!!!

Er, you need to download Apache, and PHP, and configure them both to work. THEN you get to figure out how to code *grin*.
ReplyDeleteCSS2 you probably already are using, you are just calling it CSS. CSS3, well, I don't understand much about it yet, but it doesn't matter - neither do the browsers. They only have very limited capability with it at this point.
The nice part about PHP is you can modularize your web pages - in other words, if you are using the same navigation bar at the top for instance, you can put that into a separate PHP file. That way if you have 10 or so pages using it, you only have to change it in one place for the change to be reflected everywhere.
That and PHP allows you to talk to a database. Which reminds me, you will need to download and configure MySQL too...
But fear not Lockie, you are on the road to some pretty insane stuff. That and it is rather cool too.
Oh Lockie...you have come far since the days of old 360. You are an inspiration to the rest of us. You have the daring and the gumption to get out there and do it! I am so proud of you!! I am thrilled that you WON. You go girl!
ReplyDeleteCongrats!!!....when can you start tutoring me?
ReplyDeleteGood for you!!
ReplyDeleteCongrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so happy for ya gal!
ReplyDeleteWell!! Congrats to you, lady!!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, my friend. I never doubted that you were a winner, Lockie, since you have a winner's attitude to resolving problems of page design, etc., I hope that you get some great satisfaction from your prize. Most of what you say (above) went over my head, of course, because my eyes glaze over at the mere mention of CSS's 1, 2 & 3, plus PHP ... *grin*
ReplyDeleteFear is not the thing that has me backing up really quickly from the PHP thing.. I don't think my computer has the umph! to make it happen without crash city... I still have a lot of free space in memory.. real careful with that.. but for heavens sake.. just the Apache download is over 6 gigs! I am going on 5 years old on this computer and it is used a lot.. yeah.. well you knew that already huh? Thanks for the vote of confidence... and if you want to look at this book.. just yell.. you have to go to the website to see it if you don't have it downloaded to your computer.. and you need the password and account name.
ReplyDeleteThanks Vinnie! It was a weird feeling to win.. doesn't happen to me very often! But I don't compete very much and hardly ever enter any contests.. so maybe that is the reason why I don't win often... lol... and yeah I realize I have come a long way from a woman who didn't know how to turn a computer on 5 years ago, and whom refuses to enroll in school!
ReplyDeleteNow wait OJ... maybe we need to discuss this s a bit about tutoring.. I mean.. I can tut.. and nobody can oring like me.. but to put it together.. might be a bit of a stretch..
ReplyDeleteThank you.. Thank you very much!
ReplyDeleteI kind of feel like I glow a bit.. lol.. thank you sweetie.
ReplyDeleteYeah.. all those numbers and then add in the alphabet and a persons brain decides to make soup most of the time!
ReplyDeletehey way to go terri. I am still confused with html, so there ya go, LOL. Happy Designing.
ReplyDeleteI am confused with html. I have cheat sheets and templates...
ReplyDeleteWay to go, Lockie! *hug*
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! I'm so happy for you. Keep on going. You'll find a way to make all the programs you need to work for you, even if they have too many gigs. You have a way of always being able to figure it all out. BTW....is there a program that's equal to Apache that will work....one with less gigs?
ReplyDeleteBIG HUGS
WOW!!! Congrats!! and if you want to experiment on MY page, go right ahead!! lol.... ((huggs))
ReplyDeleteIts all french to me..LOL..Congrats Lockie..
